Some Frequently Used Terms...

Radiologist - a medical doctor who has taken four to seven years of advanced medical training to become a specialist in interpreting x-rays, ultrasounds and other medical images. Radiologists do not order imaging tests directly, but are asked to perform these tests on behalf of the referring doctor.

Technologist - a medical professional possessing two to three years of higher education, who then took part in a series of continuing education programs specifically for mammography or ultrasonography.

Benign - not cancerous
Biopsy - the removal and examination of tissue
Malignant - cancerous
Mammogram - a breast x-ray
Sonogram - an ultrasound image
